At the age of four she began singing and gained the chance to shine when she begged her mother bring her to an audition for Sesame Street. At the age of six, she started her acting career as a child actor on the Sesame street's educational television show. She was a part of numerous Broadway productions that were staged in New York City, including Fences (with James Earl Jones, later Billy Dee Williams) and Orfeo del Campo (off-Broadway). The show won Star Search twice when she was just seven years old. The second time she performed, her performance received her a rating of four stars.
